About Gio Goi
Gio-Goi is a famous British fashion brand that was created in the 1980s, and had a much anticipated re-launch in 2005. The Gio-Goi brand has its origins in the Manchester band scene of the late 1980s, which was a mix of indie rock and hip dance music. It all started by The Donnellys, who started out by selling clothes and collectable's at clubs and raves throughout Manchester, most notably at The Hacienda. But unfortunately, after a legal battle with fashion giants Giorgio Armani over the lawfulness of using Gio in its branding, the Donnellys finally decided to halt and later end production.
Gio Goi re-launched in 2005 after financial backers were keen to revive the brand. The success of the Gio-Goi watches can be seen by its star studded fan following. They are now worn by numerous world famous musicians, including Deadmau5, Pete Doherty, Tom Meighan, the late Amy Winehouse, Liam Gallagher, The Enemy, The Arctic Monkeys, Plan B, Lily Allen and even Bernard Sumner's new band, Bad Lieutenant uses many of their products. Actors Danny Dyer and Paul Nicholls, the renowned Boxer Michael Jennings and musicians such as Hard-Fi and Calvin Harris have also been spotted wearing Gio-Goi products.
In their highly successful 2007 spring/summer collection, Gio-Goi also collaborated with Pete Doherty to create a range of hip and retro T-shirts. The line was available from Selfridges in London on December 7, 2006 for just 30 days and was released to selected stores thereafter, creating an ever increasing demand for the brand and what it had to offer. In December 2008, Pentland Group bought a 20% stake in Gio-Goi, creating a bigger expansion within the company, which has been translated into their products, especially the Gio-Goi watches.
